9.8.07 London Late at The British Library.
This is a free admission indoor evening gig at the British Library, St Pancras, 96 Euston Road, London, NW1 2DB. Doors are at 19.30 and the artists are Louise Setara, Francoise Atlan and the Orchestra Andalou de Fes and Fantazia, who will perform at around 10pm. Tickets are free but need to be booked in advance - either at
boxoffice.bl.uk (click on online Box Office)
or on 01937 546546

Though a separate event, this evening gig is related to the British Library's Summer Music programme which runs from Monday 6 to Friday 10 August 2007, with performances from 12.45 and 17.30 daily. The Summer Music events are outdoors, on the Piazza. They are free with no need to book. On the 9th, Francoise Atlan and the Orchestra Andalou de Fes will be appearing as part of Summer Music in the afternoon at 12.45.

For Summer Music, the British Library Piazza is transformed into a musical venue for a week of outdoor concerts. This year's music is themed on the spiritual, as artists of Jewish, Christian and Muslim backgrounds respond to the British Library's Sacred exhibition. Performers include some of Morocco's leading singers; the soulful and stirring Francoise Atlan with the Fes Orchestra and the Sufi inspired Arab-Andalusian melodies of the Sayed Temsamani Orchestra.

SALAAM MUSIC VILLAGE 2006 (28 June - 14 July) A Celebration of Arts and Culture from the Islamic World.
The 21st Music Village festival - SALAAM - presents one of the largest and most diverse gatherings of Muslim artists ever assembled outside the Islamic world. Guest visiting artists from 11 countries unite with outstanding UK-based Muslim performers, storytellers, speakers and workshop leaders in a 17 day programme of public activities across London. All events are Free Admission to facilitate access for all, regardless of income. "Salaam" means "peace" in Arabic and peace is at the very core of Islamic belief. The Salaam Music Village is a call to peace that responds to a surge of negativity towards Muslim populations worldwide since 2001. Muslim and non-Muslim extremists have both in their ways fuelled the distorted notion of Islam as a rigid and intolerant religion, one that is locked in the past and incompatible with other faiths. Yet the living reality is of a moderate, progressive and welcoming worldwide community of Muslim peoples, one that has existed and evolved in relative harmony with non-Muslims throughout history. The festival illuminates examples of peaceful co-existence and critical engagement between Muslims and non-Muslims across the world. It celebrates some of the breathtaking diversity of artistic forms generated by Muslim communities as an expression of their faith. And it unveils for Muslims and non-Muslims alike the immense and enduring contribution of Islam to the world's cultural heritage over the centuries. Cultural Cooperation
